Arequipa - Day 61 - 29/11/2012 (Thursday)
The bus driver decided to wake us up at 6am by blasting out maroon 5. Lovely way to wake up. Luckily we were almost to Arequipa. From the bus station we got a bus to the hotel. As it was still really early our rooms were not ready and no where in the town was open so we just sat in the hotel lobby. Luckily we had good wifi. When we did get our rooms Sarah had a sleep and I had 7 days of blog to catch up on. Oh that's weird writing that I am writing the blog. I wonder if I will mention this moment of blog writing when I come to comment on what I am doing now. Probably not. Anyway...
At 12 we all meet up and went to a museum dedicated to Inca sacrifices. We watched a video and then saw loads of things that the sacrificed children get buried with. All the sacrifices were done on top of mountains close to the city. The highlight right at the end is a perfectly persevered body of one of the victims; a 12 year old girl. We don't have any photos as we couldn't take them but to be honest I don't know if I'd of wanted a picture.
We went to a sandwich bar for lunch and then onto the only other thing to do in this place, the monastery. The place was huge, it took up a whole city block. We walked around for a coupe of hours looking at cells (nuns rooms), kitchens, art etc etc.
After that we had some organising to do. It is Danielle's birthday tomorrow so we had to firstly find some balloons. No where seemed to sell them but we had a good laugh acting out blowing up balloons in front of people until we learnt the word for them. Finally we got one and then had to sort the second part. We'd already brought a photo album but we had to find and print some pictures. We collected as many photos as we could find and then went to the printers.
Afterwards it was dinner time and at the restaurant Martin had organised for a band to play for Danielle (we would be in the middle of nowhere tomorrow so it had to be tonight). After the band and our food they brought out a huge chocolate cake.
It was only right to celebrate Danielle's forth coming big day so we went to a bar which happened to have happy hour. We had a few drinks, followed by a couple more. A few people left but 5 of us stayed. When it started to get busy they brought over our bill as I guess it was bar payments only. However Alice had other ideas and threw the bill away. We had no idea how much to pay. Once we did pay we decided it was a good idea to leave. Back at the hotel we weren't exactly being quiet and got told off a few times by the staff and some other people trying to sleep. Opps!
