April 18th (Saturday) - Day 48 - Perth to Fremantle
We checked out our hostel and jumped on the local train to Fremantle. Found our hostel with ease and checked in. We were sharing with 6 other people most of whom where still in bed and to be honest the room stank. We dumped our stuff and headed out. We found the harbour where our boat would go from the next day. There was also a little market so we had a look around. Then we went to the super market to get a picnic and we ate it by the coast. Had to fend off numerous sea gulls! We then wandered some more taking in some more markets and tourist spots. We decided to rent a camper van for the rest of the time in Western Australia so booked that up. Chilled in the hostel and then went out for dinner. Went to this really cool pub/brewery that brewed it own beer which you could see through the glass walls; it was called little creatures. Sat on the beach for about an hour before heading back to the hostel. We soon realised it was a bit of a party place. Our room was a constant walk way of people and the final person finally went to bed at half 6.
April 19th (Sunday) - Day 49 - Fremantle (Rottnest Island)
After hardly any sleep we got up and headed to the harbour. We got our ferry tickets (which I managed to get a discount on) and sailed over to Rottnest Island. The island is 17km from the mainland and it took us about 25 minutes to get there. Once off the boat we went to a bike hire shop as this was the best way to see the island. We hopped on and rode to the first stop. This was a beach over looking the mainland and you could see the sky scrapers of Perth in the distance. We rode all morning stopping to look at the sights, the main one being this tiny little light house. After that we stopped on a beach for lunch and about half way through we were over run by these 2 big black lizards. They were not bothered by us at all and they seemed to want Sarah's bag for some reason. After moving down the beach and having a hasty lunch we did the long ride to the end of the island. Its about 12km from the start. The problem was it was so hot we soon ran out of water so once at the end we had to rush back and not really take in the other side of the island because we so badly needed water. Once we made it back and drank about 6 gallons of water we found a nice little beach to relax on before handing the bikes back and waiting for the ferry. That evening we went to the marina and had a massive portion of fish and chips. I think it's the best I have ever had! That evening we went back to the hostel and watched the film they were playing on a big screen.
