Today we spent the day in Sevilla. This city was founded by Julius Caesar and is entrenched with Moorish culture and architecture. First, we saw the Plaza de Espana which now serves as primarily government offices, but had some BEAUTIFUL tile work, which you will see in our pictures. Each Spanish province (there are 50) is represented by a beautiful mosaic. We only got to stay for 10 minutes but I think we got some great pictures.

Next we visited the Real Alcazar de Sevilla which was originally built as a fort in 913 and has been adapted and enlarged in almost every century since. Today it is more of a palace than a fort. The Spanish King Juan Carlos still occasionally stays there. Next, we walked through the Santa Cruz Quarter, the old Jewish area of the city, and visited the Cathedral of Sevilla - the largest Gothic cathedral in the WORLD. In the cathedral we climbed all the way to the top of the tower (33 flights of no stairs, just brick ramps) and took some beautiful pictures of the entire city of Seville. Nancy found some beautiful early 18th century tiles at an antique shop in the Parque de Maria Luisa. Oh, and we had a delicious lunch of tapas in a cute restaurant called Hostaria del Laurel.

Now we are spending the night in a hotel in Córdoba. Tomorrow we will tour the city... we are having a great time with the students and Life Long Learners.
