Today we experienced something that I am sure we will never forget: we attended a bullfight in Villaluegna del Rosario, a small village about an hour and ½ outside of Cádiz with a population of 481.
It was such a beautiful drive there through the Sierra Mountains. While we drove, our guide, "Sam," told us all about the bullfight and its history. He also warned us about what we were going to see. Geno really wanted to experience this unique bit of Spanish culture, but Nancy was a little apprehensive. There were 3 matadors who fought 2 bulls each. It was difficult to watch at times, but the grace of the matadors and the unique setting made us so glad we experienced it. You can check out the pictures to see the "plaza del torros" (the bullring) which is basically carved out of a beautiful mountain.
After the bullfight, we all went to a tapas restaurant with outdoor seating and a beautiful view of an illuminated village. It was such a special night!
Fun Facts:
-The President awards the best matadors the ear of the bull if they have done an exceptional job
-If the matador is outstanding they might get 2 bull ears and/or a bull tail as their trophy
