Neil's Round the World Trip!
Today I left Hervey Bay at 7am and got on a Greyhound bus (10 hours trip) passing through Brisbane and finally arriving in Byron Bay at 5ish (you add one hour on when you enter N.S.W.)
I walked around Byron a bit dazed as I'd been sleeping on the bus. I went to about 10 hostels and they all had no vacancies. I asked a guy if he knew of any hostels with vacancies, he said "no, welcome to Byron Bay". It's a popular place. Eventually I found a hostel tout who said they had vacancies-woo hoo!
However the hostel was 20km south in a place called Lennox Head. It was a sleepy, beach town and was actually really nice. The hostel was a real hippy joint (pun) and had hammocks, huts and a thai restaurant.
I bought fish and chips and ate them on the beach as the sun went down, the surf drowning out the noise of party revellers in a nearby BBQ.
I met two crazy Israeli guys in my room Moses and Roy. We went to the local pub, chatted to some Japanese girls (not for long as they could only say hello and how are you) and watched a live band. Then we headed back to the hostel and went to sleep at 1am.
