After a 2.5 hour flight we arrived in Melbourne and jumped on the shuttle to our hostel. The place was trendy with it's own bar which was actually quite nice! After settling in we headed into town to look for a new camera. With one purchased we went back to the Hostel for dinner (7 dollars for a pint and a large portion of food! If you just had a small portion and no drink it was free!) and made the most of happy hour before heading to bed.
The next few days we went for long walks around the city, had lunch on the Southbank, did some shopping (including changing the camera we bought to get the new version of our old one instead!) and saw most of the city we missed the first time round (but some of the same bars!!) but the highlight was Friday night as we'd got tickets to watch an AFL match at the MCG. It was only one third full (it's now got a 100,000 capacity) but the atmosphere was great. We'd plumped for some decent tickets so had a great view and were close to the bar too! It really is an awsome place and a great venue - much fun!
The next day it was time to leave Melbourne, our few days had flown by but we do love it there - can't wait until Narelle & David move there! On the Saturday we didn't fly until 4.30pm so we checked out and went for a walk around the Queen Victoria Markets and they were superb, there must have been over 20 butchers and the same number of fishmongers, more green grocers than we could count and the some fantastic deli's - yummy! We stayed and had some lunch in the food court Tom Yum Soup (Alicia) and Pork & Prawn Dumpling Soup (Mark) and that set us up for our journey to Tasmania!
