Woke early this morning and snuck out of bed for one more walk along Middleton Beach while the others slept, an awesome way to start the day! Coffee and breakfast and then it was pack up time and we were on the road by 9am. We took the drive slowly and it was fairly boring with only the same old scrub to look at but we listened to an audio book to pass the time - it always gets to a good bit and the kids start asking questions!! Around 1130am, we pulled over into a great parking spot that took you well off the road and made lunch - ham and salad sandwiches, Grandma's Christmas cake and a much-needed cappuccino (thank god for the generator - my best friend). We could have sat for an hour in the shade and rested for a while but the kids were straight back in the car before we had even packed up. Here we are trying to leave the rat race and slow down but the rat is in the kids and not us!! We made it to Hopetoun by 230pm and found the caravan park, which is on the beach. A powered site cost us $50 a night. We have a great little spot under the trees with kids in a couple of vans near by. It's a massive park spread out in the bush with really clean shower blocks but very little of anything else. However, you walk to the beach and it's beautiful so you don't need anything else. We saw 2 dolphins swimming along the shallows within the first 5 mins - always a good omen. Spent the rest of the afternoon swimming and then home for showers, dinner and a couple of hours reading before bed.
PS. It's been lovely to read everyone's messages, especially Lamp shades - the youngest blogger so far xxx
