We woke to heavy rain and pulled out around 8:30. It was a dreary drive along the Yellowhead and only stopped for Timmies and bathroom breaks. By the time we hit Winnepeg the rain had lightened up. Winnipeg is a tricky town to find your way around! Because it was Sunday we didn't find much open but did get directions to a used book store downtown. Once we got onto the right street we discovered that very few streets had signs and we got turned around a few times before we spotted the bookstore (more by good luck than good navigating I must admit) to discover that the corner we had gotten turned around on is affectionately called "confusion corner" by the locals. An interesting place and hopefully can come back through on a weekday.
From there we stopped at Portage La Prarie and Island Park at Crescent Lake. An appropriate name as the narrow lake almost curves back around to it's beginning! I can almost hear the explorers as they paddled around the lake to find themselves back where they started.
Cam remembered coming to this park when he was young, holding his Grandpa McGill's hand and trying to climb the plane monument. It was raining pretty hard by then but we got a few pictures.
Carriedon down the road and made it to Kenora Ontario for the night.
I had noticed the MB license plates had a background with mountains on the left and right side. Once we had passed through I realized that was what MB was - hilly on the East and West borders and as flat as Sask in the middle!
