What a difference a day makes! The weather has turned and it's cold already. Ice storms are expected here in Texas. Who knew?!
Flask of coffee in-hand, Carol took me to Larry's hair salon in Mineola. The shop is alongside the highway (like many outlets). It a cute hut-type structure bejewelled in gorgeous icicles and sparkly lights. Inside is a very sophisticated look and the Christmas decorations look like they are out of a Hollywood movie set. On a suspended track above the shop, he's even put in a miniature train which hurtles around above customers heads. Larry built the place (he used to own a construction company), designed the interiors, put up the Christmas decorations (which took four days apparently). In an earlier career he also designed high-end ball gowns and then did the costumes for San Francisco Opera. Oh.... And he cuts hair too!
Carol and I returned to base (i.e. their home) in time for grilled cheese sandwiches, expertly crafted by David. Late afternoon it was time for my next adventure. I've booked into an inn in downtown Mineola, not far from the Amtrak Station where I arrived just over a week ago.
