We are at Platte River Campground. We go home Friday. Kind of sad. We've had fun. It's kind of cool how all of the campgrounds are so different and offer different things. This one is a state park with state regulations. It clean, it's spacious, it has paths and roads leading to things to do by foot, by car or by bike. We've been riding our bikes everywhere. Again, we are so glad we brought our bikes.
Today, we got up and headed to the Tubing place at the entrance to the campground. We road our bikes. Convenient. We got there about 10:30 because the lady told me a big party was coming soon. She asked when I'd like to come and I said, "when that big party isn't." We went on a 2 hour tube down the lazy Platte River. I've done it a few times when the kids were little. It's a relaxing activity on a hot day. We only had one terrifying moment when we floated into the seaweed monster's lair. Paul and Elizabeth left me with the useless Ben and Matthew in the reeds and black murky yuck as I shrieked for them to free me. They were clinging to my tube and dragging me down. They say I was leaving them there to die. No death was involved just disgust. A nice young boy walked through the (shiver) murk and pulled us out. Thank you Jesus. I had every part of my body out of the water and in the air. Ick.
The river lets out into Lake Michigan. So cool. The river was really warm. Sand separated the river and the lake. The lake felt like ice water compared to the shallow river. When we got back we had ice cream at the store (they had ice cream).
We cooked hamburgers (Ben and Bee), Talapia (Matthew) and salmon (Paul and I). Another good dinner. I was so tired. The kids wanted to take me up my (yesterday's) suggestion to ride our bikes back to Lake Michigan and have a bonfire. I was sooooo tired and the thought of riding a mile on a dirt road sounded exhausting. I really wanted to do the bonfire and watch the sunset so we packed our backpacks with wood, kindling, marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers, skewers and towels and...I brought a Peligrino and vodka. It's only a 10 minute ride through the woods. We set up our bonfire in the sand (bucket list) while the kids swam. We roasted marshmallows while the sunset over Lake Michigan. Amazeballs! So glad we did it. Just as we heard the sun sizzle in the water, we packed up and headed back through the woods before it got dark. We had perfect timing.
Another great day. Tomorrow we pack up and head home. Our RV needs to be back by 10 AM Saturday so we have to get back tomorrow so we can clean it out. See you on the road tomorrow.
