Weather 75 and sunny
Not too thrilled with Philly. I don't know if we just went a few blocks the wrong way or what but quite frankly, it's not my fave. We stayed in a very nice hotel and it has some nice sites but it's not comfortable walking around to far in different directions. Lots of homeless and riff-raff. Our waiter told us there are pockets of not too safe. It was more of a drive-by for us before someone did a drive-by to us. Exaggerating.
By suggestion from some girls in New York, we went to Reading Terminal Market for breakfast. Really cool market. paul and i love Pike Street Market in Seattle. its kind of like that. we had crepes (dessert) for breakfast. We bought some fruit for the road and Paul got a Philly Steak Sandwich. We had plans this morning to run by the "Rocky Balboa" steps and the historic district. We did see the Rocky steps and the area is nice but not easy to hop out. We did a National Lampoons circle past (only once though). Then we headed for the historic "Old City" district. Driving stinks there. Every 5 streets is one way and lots of traffic. Ugh. We got to Independence Hall, pointed out the window and said "Kids, Declaration of Independence signed there!" We realize that they aren't really that interested in all the history yet especially after seeing Boston, so we chose to move along. We have also decided to wait on Washington DC for a couple or more years so they might appreciate it a little more.
We headed for Delaware. Our goal by suggestion from the waiter in the restaurant in Philly, was to go to the campus of the University of Delaware. What a cute little town. The boys played baseball in a park, Elizabeth and I walked Main Street and we had lunch. Very nice town.
We continued south to cross over into Maryland to have dinner in Annapolis. We wanted to stop at the state park there to put our feet in Chesapeake Bay but it was 5 o'clock and they wanted $30 to enter the park to get stung by jellyfish (there were warnings posted). Another good reason not to swim in the water. Keep em' coming people. We found our way to Annapolis, MD for dinner. Another great harbor town. A must go. Lots of stores, restaurants and boats. There was a sailboat race ending when we were there. We ate a little casual restaurant to try some crab cakes and such. Mediocre meal. I would try a different one though we wanted casual for the kids. It was fine.
Tonight we are staying just outside of Baltimore. We decided not to test out another big city. Tiring and expensive. I didn't have the energy to go into Baltimore. So we are staying about 1 hour from Hershey, PA which is our stop tomorrow. Bring on the CHOCOLATE!!! We are winding down our trip. Our last stop is with our friends in Pittsburgh. Can't wait. We visited them last year and had a GREAT time though we had some recovery to do after our visit. Well worth 2 AMs by the bonfire. Ghilani's, we're almost there!!!!
Good Night All or Good Morning. :)
