Woken up at 7am to have breakfast at 7.30am which were fried eggs on the toast, and cup of tea! I enjoyed the breakfast very much so as it was needed before climbing the Sigiriya rock which is supposedly to be hell. We headed off for the rock at 8 clock as the gate opens at 8.30 and we were recommended to do this climb in the morning, early morning before the soaring sun comes up and cook us. So we bought our tickets and I was really excited because I heard it was the most amazing thing. So I wore my black leggings, vest top with a cardigan and my converses for this climb and I was so relieved I opted for the leggings as I realised at mid way of climbing that it was best thing to wear as it was easy to move around in it and especially climbing the steps!
We read in the guide book that there would be water vendors at the bottom so we planned to get some water before climbing and once we arrived at the first steps..there were NONE! So we climbed without water, I would recommend to others to bring some if they are thinking to climb this rock and I was stupid to not to bring one.
At the half way there was a gallery of painting on the rock which was really old so it was nice to see and hide under the shade for a bit. I was dying for some water as it was so hot, I was sweating so much and I regretted that I didn't really think about the water.
When I got nearer to the top, I was so proud of myself as I was worried my knee would give away but it didn't!!! When I took my last four flights of steps..I was just so happy and I've forgotten I needed some water. The sight was just amazing, with lots of green to look at, different type of trees, lakes, rivers and temples in the view. I was just so overwhelmed with the view. It was just beautiful, a definitely visit if people plans to come to Sri Lanka and make sure your camera is fully charged!
We climbed the steps in 45 minutes, the average time was a hour and half, so I was proud of myself. It was becoming more hot as the sun was out, I felt I was burning even I had some sun lotion on, like triple layers so I hid under a tree on the rock, thank god for that and waited til Sara and Stephen was done so we all headed down for more steps to go back.
When I reached at the bottom, I still couldn't believe that I actually climbed the rock with no problems and without WATER! So I rushed to the cafe and bought myself a pepsi can and a large water bottle. I downed that pepsi and felt so much better with some sugar in me!
We both then went to have a look around in the Sigiriya muesum which was SO BORING! We bought some postcards from the shop and went back to our car to make our way back to Kandy! That is when I started to read my guide book and then realised..the water vendors were at the exit area, not the entrance so it was a sign I need to wear my glasses more!
But yes, I have climbed 1200+ steps and I can now say I've done it rather than saying 'I would like to do it'. :)
