Alice Springs to Wycliffe Well and the Devils Marbles.
While we were in the Alice we had been listening to the journey of this huge generator that was coming from Darwin to Alice on two prime movers and a huge trailer. When we left we knew that we would be passing this huge generator so we had our eyes peeled and the radio on for updates. Not far out of Alice there was police pulling everyone off the road to make space for the generator and we pulled over and got the cameras out , well for something so huge and it was suppose to be travelling at 40k it was kicking along. So all the photos were blurred but gee it was big it took up the whole road with two big Kenworth's (James says they are the biggest as he is the expert now after the trucking museum) and one at the back for a spare and heaps of support vehicles, it was three stories high and as wide as the road even the road train driver was impressed.
Back on the road and the terrain flatten out but with our newly gained knowledge of birds and vegetation the trip was taken up with dodgy bird identification and tricky plant id's at 100k's. Ti tree was morning tea while watching some kids play with a Joey like a puppy. Then a quick dash though Barrow Creek. Then Wycliffe Well, well at first i didn't know if we should stop or not it all looked very strange but it was a big 4 so it should be ok!! Everyone should google this place it is fascinating it is the extraterrestrial capital of Australia and boy don't they ham it up. this was an amazing place with a great little bar a Chinese restaurant and great conversation piece that we are still talking about and i think Callum will remember for the rest of his life. The shop is full of sightings of Aliens and the whole place was covered aliens and super hero's to save us from the aliens. Unfortunately for us they didn't take the kids but we scared the living daylights out of them hehehe. While at the well we met some great people that we had seen in Alice and got chatting and they had a house on the Island you are never far from home really.
As we had arrived in the Alien capital of Australia early we decided to have a look at the Devils Marble's this was beautiful and they are just off the highway and really easy to look at and i have put some great picks in the Album for you.The other point to this trip was so that we could finally go at 130 wow what fun.NT gets all the fun boy ,you can really get places quick at this speed and no wonder people are passing us like we are standing still.
I would recommend Wycliffe Well as a stop as it was a great park in the middle of nowhere and the people are nice as well (or are they just aliens waiting for the perfect victims???).
