We stayed at Fox Glacier last night. At about 1am the call of nature woke me, too many beers after a long day driving, I guess. On leaving the van I looked towards the heavens. I have never seen a clearer sky, the milky way was, well, very milky and there were so many stars I couldn't count them. But I was in a bit of a hurry remember! This morning was cool, well cold to be honest. There wasn't a cloud in the sky nor a breath of wind, and so it stayed for most of the day. We went to see Fox Glacier and then ventured to Lake Matheson. The picture attached to this is of Mts Cook and Tasman reflected in the lake. We walked around the lake which took a little over an hour before setting off to Franz Josef Glacier, a quick walk to a viewing point before getting on the road again to Hokikiti. This town has the National Kiwi Centre. We were fortunate to see one in person but as no photography was allowed I cannot give you the evidence. However we also watched some eels being fed and I can show you those on my return. Bet you can't wait. Then onwards to Greymouth. Just outside here is a kind of bushman's cafe where the owner cooks road kill and makes pies with them. I declined a possum pie. Weather has changed a little now, cloudy a humid, guess the temp is about 20 at present (17.55). Travelling to Westport tomorrow and then towards Nelson.
