As you can see, we have now seen a yellow eyed penguin. This one emerged from the sea at about 8pm last evening. Kept us waiting though, fishing must have been good. Went back to the beach this morning. The dolphins were swimming near the shore in water about waist deep and coming in on waves as if surfing. Cold, cloudy and windy today. We went to Slope Point, the most southerly point on South Island, to another bay and then into Invercargill. Had a wander and visited the information centre to discover that the weather is not due to improve for a couple of days so we decided not to visit Stewart Island and to move on towards Te Apau tomorrow.Booked a day of cruising on Doubtful Sound for Weds having made the decision that it is a better option for us than Milford Sound. Arrived here in Bluff about 4ish, camped up and will probably walk into town shortly to see what is going on. Bluff particularly well known for oysters so we'll maybe have to try some although Yvonne already has. Hope you are all well and enjoying the end of winter. Son Chris should now be in New York. If he is reading this, why? Still remote here, no phone signal until we were in Invercargill so not much chance of sending this for a day or two yet but I'll keep writing.
