Mike & Benedict's World Adventures
We reached Saigon and i could tell from the bus drive through the city i was going to like it. We arrived there in the afternoon and after a couple of hours tring to find a half decent room at a half decent price (and Stefie upsetting the locals with her abrupt attitude to their persistent selling techniques) we found somewhere which turned out to be housing the English girls from Nha Trang that Ben knew.
The afternoon was spent chilling out before heading round the corner to the street of bars and restaurants. It was time to get on the drink and between us and the Germans we bumped into 10 people we had met in other places. The strangest one for me was walking through a bar where i heard someone shout my name, i turned around to see 2 girls who i began speaking to (pretending i could remember them) 5minutes later it clicked that i had met them in Nha Trang on a big night out at the sailing club (Fiona and Emma). So we all got together and had some more drinks.
Then the Americans turned up who took a shine to our group. So we arranged the next night to meet up for drinks and head to a club.
The following day Ben, Malte and myself made our way to the war museum which is definitely worth seeing but some of the pictures and artefactes (namely the foetuses in a jar and a picture of a soldier carrying half a body) are quite disturbing. As we had walked there we also got to take in a nice park and more importantly had noticed a KFC - happy times.
Again the evening was going to be heavy as it was the Germans last night before heading home. So i did my ritual thing and bought a bottle of local vodka for 96,000 dong 3pound something and a can of redbull. after that was finished we made our way to Apocalypse now nightclub just to find they were closing so we head back to the street to carry on our drinking. Before finally heading home as we had to be up at 7.30 to go to the Cu Chi tunnels.
I felt suprisingly good (after a litre of water) even after an hour bus journey. The tour was excellent and our guide knew so much about the tunnels and soldiers, they really were ingenious in keeping themselves hidden underground. It also gave me and Ben the opportunity to fire and M-16 which was fun but didn't look half as much fun as the guy next to us firing the machine gun. The tunnels themselves were hot, humid and pitch black. It was a good experience but how they lived down there i really don't know.
After the trip it was just a matter of chillin out and getting an early night as we were off to the Mekong Delta in the morning before heading onto Cambodia. We had been invited by the Americans for a drink but we couldn't be bothered plus their choice of location was expensive.
