It was time for our escape from backwards bay to a desert island surrounded by seas that should not be swam in as they contain sharks and strong currents. Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world covered with beautiful lakes, forested areas and immense sand dunes. Well the car was hired and all that remained was the 876km drive which was achieved without incident over 11 hours 30 minutes and 3 breaks (except for not taking the right turning in Sydney and taking an hour to find it again). It was time to relax at the chilled out Byron Bay, our time here included much sleeping to recover from the festivities of the final week as it was just Ben and myself again now. Our first full day in Byron Bay we decided to hire bikes and head up to the lighthouse to try and catch some whales passing.
