Mike & Benedict's World Adventures
Next on the trail was Kanchanaburi for which we knew we only had one day to do all our sight seeing as we had a flight to make from Singapore (which we have already put back) and lots still to do after.
Arriving at Kanchanaburi the bus driver tells us to get on another bus - feeling there is something wrong we decide to find out where the bus is going after 10mins of speaking to the driver (who doesn't speak english) and talking to some guy on a phone we find out it is going back to Bangkok. Off we get - we were hoping the bus would take us to the guest house we wanted to stay at as the streets in Kanchanaburi were still filled with the water fighting that had ended 3 days ago in Bangkok and we had all our gear on our backs.
Surviving the water fight (suffering only minor splashage) we found ourselves at our guesthouse situated on the river. Where we managed to book tickets for the next day to see the Erawan waterfalls, the death railway (including a ride on it) and the bridge over the river Kwai.
Erawan waterfalls consistd of a 2km walk up an ever steeping track to the top 7th tier. The walk was spectacular with loads of lush scenery and despite the heat we knew there was a guaranteed swim at the end. It was well worth it!!!
Next the death railway and a ride on the train. Walking down the tracks with a magnificent backdrop was impressive and the train journey wasn't bad either. The final stop at the brige over the river Kwai was definitely worth the trip despite the millions of Oriental tourists.
In the evening we grabbed a beer and watched the Chelsea game but it was another early start the next day as we had to catch a bus at 12 but wanted to visit the death railway museum in the morning and the cemeteries. The Museum and cemeteries really hit home what the POW's went through to build the railway and put a sombre mood on the morning.
When the afternoon came around however we knew it was time to head off for a week of beaches and beers as we started our journey to Kho Pha Ngan.......
