Mike & Benedict's World Adventures
It was time for Bangkok but first we had to cross the border this took a little while as the passport control desks to number of passports was very low. When we got in it was a relieve to see a nice air con bus (that we had to wait 2 hours to depart in as they were waiting for more people). Before departure we were entertained by some street kids who didn't like me as i wouldn't give them any free stuff but loved ben as he bought a drink he didn't like and gave it to them. This of course was before the security guard with nun-chuks appeared (as they do) that scared the kids off.
Once in bangkok it took us a while to find a hostel as many were busy due to the upcoming new year. We decided to head out for a few drinks down the manic Khao San road where we found a sports bar and as it was Saturday night we took in the days action of football on tele.
The next few days consisted of the usual sight seeing and loads of time spent down Khao San road looking at the many shops and enjoying beers. We took time to head to the Australian embassy to gets our Oz visa's before being told they did them at another place now, once we reached that destination we were told we could apply on-line (which took about 5mins instead of the 2km walk we had just taken). The trip was a total bust as it meant we got to take a bus boat and skytrain as well as taking in the upmarket shopping streets of Bangkok. The afternoonm finished with Lumphini park and we were going to watch some Thai Boxing but it was too expensive.
During our time in Bangkok we met some more adventurers including Jack who joined us at we walked down Khao San road with our waterguns during the new year festivities. We also met the 4 danish people pictured with us, we spent a couple of nights out with them. The first night consisted of many cocktail buskets and a niot quite making it to a night club (still the evening lasted til 3am). As well as the mandatory random people you only speak to once.
The weirdest night came during the new year celebrations - involving flour, water, baby elephant and 40 year old midget dancing with us at the club. All a bit blurry but what a night! There was also time to fit in a couple of movies at the cinema (we watched the first one to kill time until the secong one in the gold class section). Fully reclining leather chairs, a blanket and table service made this a very worthwhile experience (however watching 2 films in the day did me we had to rise from our cinema seats twice to pay our respects to the king before the file started).
We also time to take in the magnificent grand palacce definitely worth a look if you're ever in Bangkok. It's a very bright place - lots of gold paint. I almost went blind in the blazing sun but fortnuately the clouds came to my rescue.
Well we're now off to Kanchanaburi before hitting the Island beaches off the East coast. So there will be another update afterrr them i guess.
