Mike & Benedict's World Adventures
After a week of relaxation it was time for three days of intensive activities. Arriving at Khao Sok National Park in the evening we ventured down a dark mud path with the aid of a torch to find our hostel. Arriving at the hostel we grabbed some dinner whilst deciding which activities to do. We discovered we could fit in elephant trekking, canoeing on khao Sok river and a night safari all in one day. Meaning we could move on the next day to Krabi.
Just as we booked up the tour we overheard 2 scottish girls talking (Ruth and Sarah) who were planning on doing the exact same activities the next day so we soon had new friends. The elephant trekking in the morning was excellent (but not very comfortable) as we went through a jungle to a waterfall where we had the opportunity to swim and jump into the 5m deep pool after climbing up the cliff - very refreshing after sitting on an elephant in the baking heat.
The elephant in front enjoyed relieving himself in front of us (the poor guide had to keep clearing the path for our elephant of the football sized turds) and letting his old fella dangle to the floor - he was just showing off. Feeding the elephants afterwards was the best bit as I felt a little bad for the elephants - some of the terrain i was sure i was going to fall off.
Next the Canoeing and another awesome afternoon spent cruising along the river with very entertaining guides who found me a buddha toad to hold. Once again we found a spot to swim in the increasing heat - the rope swing was particularly good and i decided to go one step further and jump from the highest point i could get to - i found out the river wasn't that deep on that jump but surfaced without injury.
Finally the night safari which was just weird - we walked through the jungle with our "guide" but i'm pretty sure we were in another hostels back yard as everytime we came to a road we saw a sign for the same hostel. It was a laugh as we all joked about but we did see a wild cat, some giant grass hoppers and a spider making it's web.
After 2hours walking we hit the sack as the next day we were up early to reach Krabi. We arrived in Krabi in the afternoon and said our farewells to the Scottish girls. As soon as we got to our hostel we booked in to go sea kayaking that afternoon. It poured down on the way and we were a bit concerned for the launch of th kayaks as we sat in the back of a truck getting soaked however by the time we had arrived the sun had broken throughAgain it was fun as we had to paddle hard to make it past rapids and the scenery wasn't bad either plus we got to see a monkey with it's baby clinging on. After dragging the kayak over the mud banks (as it was now low tide) back to the centre we head back and booked our trip on the Speed boa for a day trip to Phi Phi the next day.
For me one of the best trips on the trip so far, the water was a bit rough on the way out and me and ben had decided to sit at the front out in the sun - we were thrown about as the boat jumped through the waves (our backs the next day were not in a good state). The beaches and coves we visited for swimming were nothing short of spectacular consisting of perfect crystal clear water and the finest sand on the beaches. The snorkelling was great as there were loads of fish about and you could feed them out of your hand.
Just to make you jealous dad there was a buffet lunch where you could have as much spaghetti bolognaise, noodles and oh yeah green chicken curry as you could manage. In the afternoon after sitting on a beach at Phi Phi it was more snorkelling with the added bonus of being allowed to dive from the boat. The crew encouraged me to climb onto the roof of the rocking boat onto a 2ft wide platform with metal spiked poles on it - of course i obliged and after negotiating the metal pole with some caution i proceeded to dive and bomb into the water.
In the evening we got the Man Utd V Chelsea game on the TV which was good to watch but ended in dissapointment for me and delight for Ben. I gave my congratulations before heading to bed to rest up for another epic bus journey to Malaysia the next day......
