Another day in paradise!!
This morning we visited our last Mayan ruins of the tour. Is it bad for me to say that I'm not disappointed that these are our last ruins of the trip?? We have seen so many ruins on this tour, that I have become immune to how amazing they actually are. We did see some beautiful macaws flying through the ruins which was a great way to start our expedition.
We made our way back to town where, Joyce and I had a bite to eat. We then met Kim and Barry back at the hotel so we could all go to the bird sanctuary. So all 4 of us piled into a tuc tuc, which actually struggled to make it up some of the really steep cobble stone roads in town. We almost had to sit forward and sing 'the little engine that could' to encourage the tuc tuc up the hill. But bless the tuc tuc's cotton socks, it could. 10 mins later we arrived at the bird sanctuary....and it was stunning!! We saw so many different central and South American birds. The naughtiest bird award goes to the toucan, as they were trying to peck our cameras out of our hands, the cutest bird award goes to the pigmy owl!! They were so small and fluffy!!
We were able to hold 3 macaws which was cool. The other good thing about the sanctuary is that any macaw that can be rehabilitated and any birds bred at the sanctuary will be released at the Mayan ruins as it will increase numbers and reduce inbreeding! We also saw some amazing plants and flowers!!
We caught our tuc tuc back to town, where Joyce and I had the most amazing fruit smoothie. We sat in the city square people watching and just enjoyed the afternoon!!
