I was seriously tired today after Joyce found me sleep walking around our room at about 1am this morning!! Thank goodness Joyce asked me if I needed the light on as I woke up and was so disorientated that I had no idea what the hell was going on or where I was!!! Made for a great breakfast time story!!
Today we took a 5-6hr bus ride to the border of Honduras, and the bus was seriously hot!! We had the air con going full throttle, yet the motor for the air con was in the bus blowing hot air back onto our feet!! It was like being in a sauna on the sun!!! We eventually stopped for a bathroom break and realised that even though it was hot outside, it was cooler than the bus!! So we opened up all the windows and the bus was heaps more comfortable!!
We made it over the border and to the small town of Copan!! It was the funniest thing, our bus went to enter the town and quickly realised that the bus was actually too tall to get through the 'welcome to Copan' sign!! Who builds a miniature welcome sign that doesn't allow tourist buses into a tourist town??? Next thing the tuk tuk's arrived.... Hahahaha, so obviously the welcome sign was built by the tuk tuk drivers association! After totally falling for their grand master plan, we packed all of the luggage into 2 tuk tuk's, Joyce guarding the luggage in one, I was guarding the luggage in the other!!! I was half hanging out of the tuk tuk... with my carry on bags, and as we started driving around the streets one of the bags was about to go flying out, so we quickly grabbed it and wedged it between my head and the rest of the luggage. It was so comfortable....not!! We made it to the hotel with no bags lost or dropped on my watch!!
We had a quick 5 mins to drop off our bags and then did an orientation walk around the town of Copan!! A few of us then went to a restaurant for lunch, we couldn't all go to the same restaurant as the food would take too long to arrive. 6 of us hit one restaurant, and the tour guide was right, the food took forever to come!! It was beautiful...but so much meat!! It was like the meat was taken from a T. rex, it was so big!!!
After lunch we quickly returned to the hotel, so we could all go up to the hot springs!! As we entered the first pool the heavens opened up. There was something so special about being in a hot spring whilst it is raining.... Although eventually the first pool became too hot!! I started to check the surrounding forest for cannibals, as I started to get suspicious that we were actually sitting in a pot of boiling water not a hot spring!! So we moved down to a much cooler spring that was a lot more comfortable!!
On the hour trip back to the hotel, our minivan turned into a rave mobile!!! The music was doofing in the back!! I believe we also honked the horn at every single person who was walking or sitting on the street!! Again, may I remind you that we in Australia seriously under utilise our car horns!!
Back in the hotel room, I soon became concerned at the 2 spiders crawling on the walls in my room!! Lucky I'm roomed with Joyce who is not afraid of spiders!! Phew!!! Never fear, I have double checked my bed tonight!!!
