This morning we caught a ferry back to the mainland, in preparation for our 6hr bus trip to Antigua Guatemala!
We had our own private minivan, so it was comfort all the way!! It was amazing to see how the landscape changed over the journey! At times it reminded me of Mexico with how dry some areas looked!! We drove past a couple of rock falls... So I was just hoping that our minivan wouldn't be caved in by some freak rock fall.... Luckily enough we got through unscathed!!
We drove through Guatemala City...which looked like a bustling city. There was plenty of traffic, and on the outskirts there was these shanty towns built into the sides of mountains!!
We then kept driving until we came across this stunning town, with cobble stone roads and old colonial buildings. We had arrived, Antigua!!!
We dumped our bags at the hotel, and did a quick orientation walk around the town centre!! It is stunning...with the most beautiful of backdrops a volcano!
I actually think I may have jinxed myself by saying the sun gods must be happy, as it has been raining here in Antigua (and apparently has been for quite some time). We stopped for a quick bite to eat and then hit the women's co-op shop, which is a place that sells arts and crafts and supports single indigenous women!! Such a great cause!!
We are heading out for a farewell dinner for 4 of our for group members!! It will be so sad to see them leave! We are getting 10 tour members tomorrow so should be very interesting!!
