So today we had again planned in getting on up early to get some sun, my Egypt tan has completely gone and don't want people to think im a newbie traveller, I Want to look like the established foreigners traveller types! But anyway clearly this didn't happen and we didn't get out of bed until lunch! Damn, another day wasted - but we can't help it I just can't sleep at night until 5:00am gone! Maybe I should disable the snooze off of my iPhone but then I'm scared we'll probably sleep in until tea-time!! Ha!
So when we finally got ready we went to meet sven for dib sum, I thought this was like a thai dish but turns out its Chinese food and like a little bit of everything? I don't really know what it was, he ordered it but it was cheap, and it was tasty :D there were these pastry ball things that were sweet, one filled with like a nutella tasting sauce and one with red meat I think? Then there these pork ball things wrapped in some kind of seaweed, maybe nori? And then raw shrimp ones too, I have no idea how to explain them I've never had anything like it before, they were just.... Different!
After lunch that afternoon we went to a bookstore to look for a travel book to help us navigate our way around and practically every book for sale is at least 40% cheaper than the official rrp on the back! As ever, thailand is a Bargain :)
When we there looking through the books this parade started going past, it lasted forever and it was full of school kids in ther matching uniforms, older generation lady's holding there stick umbrella shades, there were monks and there were musicians singing, playing flute, and drummer boys. All there outfits we're co-ordinated and brightly coloured and they all walked in sync with each other, it was so well rehearsed, everyone from down the street came out to take photos and cheer them on. I'm not sure what it was for, when I asked the bookstore owner what they were doing she said something to do with sacrifise to the buddah and there ancestors? One float in the middle of the parade (my cover photo) is of the gold Buddha, people were taking cups full of water and throwing at his statue as it went by! Offering him a drink? I dunno :/
When we got back to our guest house at 3:30 we were informed that if we were leaving today (which we were) then we were supposed to have checked out by 11:00am! s***, the tour guide didn't tell us this, and neither did they mention that we also have to make our own way to the station to get the night train, in tea time traffic, we were told ALL of our transfers were organised! So we quickly had to pack our cases and shove everything in as quick as we could just do we could leave the room and it could be cleaned, I don't think the owner ended up charging us in the end though so its all good but she did seem a wee bit pissed off with us :/ not our fault! :o
In the end we just got a tuk tuk to the station, only cost like £1.60 and we told him we were in a rush as our train left in an hour, so in all the school leaving traffic, he decided to just drive us along the pavement instead of on the road, thoughtful man :) everybody stared at us as it sounded like the tuk tuk was falling apart and about to break down, I don't think three wheelers are designed to drive 60mph half on a curb half on road with two large backpacks sticking out either side!
Anyway we made it in record time and still had time to waste before our train back to Bangkok, when we got on I had sigh of relief that the air con was working! Not that I needed it this time though because I had a bottom bunk this time so it was just a nice tenparature anyway, the air con just made it freezing, it always seems to be one extreme to another outside it's scorching hot, inside it's freezing cold the only time you get a happy medium is say when your in a tuk tuk or on a motorcycle and you just get a nice breeze!
When we're on the train we were say opposite two Thai locals, our meal came round and annie screeched, that there was a cockroach behind me! It wasn't it was a small beetle thing! So she was flapping and told me to squish it so I grabbed the napkin and squashed it.... Big mistake! The two people next to me looked horrified, there jaws dropped to floor! It's some kind of Buddhist nature to not kill any bugs! Like all life is sacred and if you kill anything else what goes around comes around and you will die next too! So, great! I'm gonna get crushed to death on thus train! Thanks for telling me this now annie! Haha oh well what am I supposed to do, let it crawl it's rabies infected germs all over my body while I eat? I think not!
So as usual it's now 1:00am here and Annie's fast asleep and I'm not remotely tired sitting on the nighttrain enjoying what could be last few hours of life before I'm squished to death by the Buddha... Exciting!
