We had been told we needed to visit Granada and Sevilla, that they were two places with history and architecture. Granada had the Alhambra, a walled city dating back to the twelfth century with a remarkable palace and fortress to look at. We spent numerous hours looking around. We also spent a day walking the back streets of the city. It was very interesting walking through the narrow cobbles stone streets, most only wide enough for a car to travel one way. We found some quaint little cafes and shops to look through, but were disappointed when we got out of the centre a little and found lots of graffiti. It was also a very noisy city with ambulances often driving down the streets with sirens wailing. We don't know if it was always necessary. Then it was onto Sevilla, this city had lots to see with history dating back nearly 2500 years. The main attractions are the cathedral and palace. The cathedral is the largest gothic style in the world and parts date back to the twelfth century and the largest alter took eighty years to complete. It is quite a remarkable place to see. Next was the palace which is still used today, making it the oldest building still in use in Europe today. It is called Real Alcázar and it dates back to the tenth century. The mosaic work on the floors and walls was incredible. It took us most of the day to go through both places. When we left Sevilla we went via a small place only 9Ks away called Itàlica, it is the remains of a Roman city dating back nearly 2000 years and has an amphitheater that seated 25,000 people. The place would have been amazing in its day and incorporated typical Roman innovations like drainage, paved roads and a water system. Unfortunately though like most places a lot of the materials were taken to build new places after it was abandoned. Though there is still quite a bit there to see and the mosaic floors are still amazing to look at with some almost complete.

Janet McIntyre All sounds really interesting where you've been. I'm curious about Alhambra's history because either The Tea Party or Jeff Martin on his own have a geat album called Alhambra. Love these connections. Love hearing from you!
