Sorry Albania we did not stop and have a look at you, we rode on through and maybe it is our loss. We did enter you through Shkodër and found your hustle and bustle too much to bear, so we rode on through. We stopped in a camp ground near Lezhë, it was off the beaten track and very nice, with swimming pool and modern amenities it was very comfortable. We had searched on the Internet for sights to see and decided to give your capital Tiranë a miss and head for the coast. We found ourselves in a camp ground right on the beach near Kavakë and while the water was warm your beach was not appealing with its dark brown sand and seaweed. We only stayed the night as the prices in the park were more akin to Western Europe than a poor struggling country. We had read and heard that Gjirokastër was interesting and appealing, so we headed in that direction, but after battling some of the worst traffic and roads we have ridden we were in no mood to find a place to stay so we rode on through until we found ourselves at your border and realised we had just ridden through you with hardly a photo taken and hardly a stop. But you are a country that I find hard to understand, your most popular make of car is a Mercedes Benz, yet your roads are full of potholes and are unfinished. Your people live off the land and work hard with their hands, yet they pollute your rivers with crude oil and your land by dumping truck loads of rubbish off the sides of the road. Your mountains we are told are beautiful, yet they are hard to see because of the smog that hangs over them from the burning rubbish on the sides of the road. Your people are friendly as they wave to us as we ride by, yet they drive like we are in the way as they drive by us. We are sorry Albania, maybe we would understand more if we had stopped and had a look, but while your waves are friendly, your environment is not inviting. Sorry.

Janet McIntrye What a sad, poetic, moving story you tell here, with the personification of poor Albania.
Mum/Marion Oh ! I like the way you wrote TO the country ! pointing out your feelings, very diplomatic, but very true as well! Worst roads you said, they must have been bad ! But with only two wheels to keep you upright, you need an even surface ? Yes !
