The highlight of Florence is seeing the magnificent statue of David, another masterpiece by Michelangelo. This marble statue was carved out of a single block of marble over 3 years and is now located indoors within the academy of fine arts. It shows David in a dynamic pose with the sling shot across his shoulder, the rock in his right hand and his left leg bent, the moment before he was to slay Goliath.
There is a huge cathedral in Florence made of marble of 3 distinct colours which took 140 years to complete!! The tax payers of Florence were not happy as only subsequent generations got to use it.
This afternoon our group drove out into the Tuscan Hills for a traditional Florentine meal in a charming garden setting.
