Today was our down day. Laura and I hiked over 9 miles seeing a seal sanctuary, tar pit beach, the world's largest Torrey Pine and other beaches. The weather was warm and sunny and made for a great relaxing day. Tomorrow it is on to Malibu.

Today we left our sanctuary campground and moved a short distance to the Motel 6. As of today we are back on schedule. We spent the day biking around Carpinteria. We visited several parks and walked through the Carpinteria Salt Marsh. It is in the recovery stage after many years of construction which eroded away the marsh. Today we had to divert from our route due to a forest fire north of Santa Barbara. The fire crossed the road where route 101 and 1 meet. We loaded up all of the bikes and circumvented the closed area. After passing the closed area, a few of us biked through Santa Barbara and on to the campground in Carpenteria. Great site on the beach. Day time temp is around 70 but we expect a low around 50 tonight. Tomorrow we venture to a nearby Motel 6 for our down day. A cha...
