26/04 we left saigon for our 3 day tour through the mekong delta ending in Phnom Penh. Our fist day took us to a number of different islands around My Tho. One making coconut candy, one making honey tea and wine. Here we also got the chance to have a cuddle with a python!
We meandered through jungle river in small rowing boats ..was good apart from the tropical rain which soaked us in seconds. At the end of the day we went from bus to motorcycle to boat to do a homestay with a vietnemese family. was really cool, had lovely food and played with the children. It was a very basic house on the river, but fully equiped with mosquito nets (with holes)...Meg was eaten alive by bugs !
27/4 we got up at 6am to visit the local floating market (which opens at 3am). Stopped at a few rice plantations on some of the islands to see the process of it being harvested etc. Back on the bus we headed to Chau Doc near the Cambodian border. On the way we visited a crocodile farm - not very nice really as they breed them for sale to places like china for food and bag production. In the evening we experienced vietnemes karaoke - what a talented bunch!
On the third day we set off for a long journey to the cambodian border. On the way we visited a fish farm (also not very nice) and a local village where the Cham village people practice islam. After we got a three hour boat to the border then another from the border to a village where we got a bus to Phnom Penh. All in all a long day.
Arrived safelty in Phnom Penh.
