Passing from Cambodia to Thailand was a strange journey. The road between Siem Reap and the border has been a work in progress for the last 10 years. Strangly it has tarmac on in parts and yet they seem to be spreading mud and dirt on top. Because of this we spent most of the journey sliding around in the car on the mud.
We arrived at the border and there we no signs or anything. We wandered in the direction we thought might be Thailand and we were soon passing out of Cambodia. The no mans land between the contries was slighltly weird too. There was a huge casino (we went in to borrow their facilities) which was packed even though it was only 11 in the morning. The Thai border control police were really friendly and spent a couple minutes teaching me (Met) Thai language.
We got a bus and arrived in sunny Bangkok at about 6 in the evening. Many of the hostels were fully booked so it took us a while to find one. After getting sorted we ventured out to Khao San Rd which is 'backpacker street'. Lots of street stalls... Gem and Meg got very excited by the shopping potential! Had a few drinks out and did some he-she spotting.
To say sunny Bangkok is a bit misleading really as the days have been characterised by out bursts of heavy rain. Hoping that it should be sunnier down south.
We plan to leave for Ko Phangnan 15/04 after the arrival of a new travel buddie..dan. There is a full moon party there on 20th may which attracts between 7000-10000 people every month so should be good.
We have been looking around at the cost of doing the beginners diving course on Kho Tao which is one of the few islands in the cluster off the east coast but aren't sure when yet.
Not many photos im afraid, but we should get some good ones soon on the coast!
