Another update coming your way everyone. Might be a mammoth if I have time!
Day 65:
So were back with Nick & Helen in Geraldton, they decided to let us stay for another stint; God knows why but we appreciate it!!
Today we drove into town to get some grub & more importantly, check out the tattoo shop to see if they could fit us in. Unfortunately we had been drinking last night so any chance of a good result today was slim so we decided to wait until we were sober.
We did some sight-seeing instead, starting at Greenough settlement which was totally lame. There's things in the Museum that happened after my dad was born. Although reading that back it is justified. You know it's true father.
We carried on to a more modern attraction, a wind farm. It was awesome. They aren't that impressive from a distance, but up close they are unbelievably huge. The blades are over 40m long & the tower is 78m high. It is all operated by an onboard computer that keeps the blades spinning at 202km/h. It's faster than you can imagine.
After a few typical photo shoots we carried on the pretty much un-used road to Ellendale Pool. A pool that you can swim in if you fancy risking it. If the temperature gets to 27 degrees in the water then it becomes a breeding ground for algae that causes meningitis & is untreatable. We just looked from a distance, it was gorgeous.
When we got home we quickly got changed & took a walk along the beach with Helen to a bar called African Reef where we were meeting Nick to watch the Sunset & of course indulge in some alcoholic beverages. It was a great setting & to top it off, the chef brought us out a huge platter of pastries that he cooked up, on the house.
It was getting a bit cold & dark obviously, so we tok a taxi into Geraldton centre to carry on the drinking session (had a few more beers back at the house inbetween). We stayed in a bar called 'Freemasons' all night & played pool & listened to live music. It was a really good night & fair play to Nick, even though we got totally wasted he was in work the next day before I even sobered up. That's commitment to the cause!!
Day 66:
We arranged last night to do some camping tonight as a goodbye & a chance to see some proper bush camping. So we had a shopping list each & got straight on it.
Nick got home from work by 1.30 & we were on our way to 'Two Trees', a gorgeous camping spot, not really intended for two wheel drives but that didnt stop us. Getting there at least!! The two tree spot was taken so we carried on to a spot with one tree, previously owned by a guy called Murf apparently. He had a sign & everything!
Nick & Helen are clearly seasoned campers because they had a regime that they followed & had everything ready including a fire within 10 mins. We normally just turn the light on in the van & pray it doesnt get any colder!
Me & Nick had a go at fishing but there was far too much seaweed & a distinct lack of fish. So we joined the girls drinking session. We roasted marshmallows, Carly managed to eat 5 in one go, which Nick appeared to be impressed by, but I think he was actually appalled!! We cooked up some fat beefburgers which were awesome & generally got hammered & star-gazed.
Day 67:
Me & Carly woke up to find that everything had been tidyed up & put away & breakfast & a cuppa were on the way. Was like a 5 star camping experience for us! So we ate the biggest breakfast roll you can imagine & set off on our separate ways.....well, after about 5 attempts to get off the sandtrack & onto the road!
We headed to Leeman & took a coastal walk to the lookout which was stunning & did the same thing at Greenhead & Jurien Bay. We tried to find somewhere to camp but there were too many warnings about penalties for unauthorised camping so we checked into a campsite for the night 100km North of Perth.
Carly is taking over the duties now as my internet time is about to expire!!! Cheers all.
