Hey everyone, as you can see by the location we have started the journey back towards Perth. Hope everyone at home is well & the Dad's enjoyed their Father's Days. Sorry we didnt text or call, we had no signal on the phones all over the weekend & a bit after.
So the next entry covers a lot of towns & places but we have a blog entry for most of them already so just using Carnarvon as a general title. Here goes!!
Day 62:
We drove on South this morning, firstly to Carnarvon. We got our photos of the whale sharks developed & did some general shopping. The pictures were semi-successful as you've seen already!
We picked a spot on the map to camp for the night, it's free of charge & quite local to Carnarvon so we headed for Bush Bay. When we arrived it was like driving into someones garden. We felt like we were trespassing even though it's a public campsite!! Quite a few of the vans there looked like they've been there for some time & the people were staring as we drove in. We just did a loop & drove out!!
We carried on down the dirt track to New Beach, a nice little cove, sheltered out of the way. I pulled into a bay & the back of the van sunk about 18 inches......we were stuck. After my pebbledashing of the underside of the van with sand for 10 mins Carly decided that we needed help! Im too proud to ask so she managed to get hold of an English couple with a 4x4 a chain from a tour company. The local Aussie's (seemed like more permanent residents to be honest) were rude saying that it's our own fault & refused to be helpful!!
We were yanked out of the sand in seconds parked up somewhere a little less vulnerable. I did a spot of fishing which ended up being a fish feeding session really & Berg planned the next day or so on the map.
Dave & Irene from Goulet Bluff that we met a week or so before turned up at the campsite & happened to be friends with the English couple that saved us! Small world even over here! We chatted fo a bit but decided that staying there overnight might be a bad idea cos the tide comes in high sometimes & the sand would get even worse for driving over. We hit the highway again & found a free spot called Gladstone Lookout that had views across the outback. Great views & really quiet but freezing cold overnight. We could tell we had left the Tropics.
Day 63:
Today was a bit of a driving day, we set off at 7.30 drove to Port Gregory, a pink lake that we took pics of but I dont think they quite show the colour as it is in person. Was amazing, its a natural farm for keratine, hence the colour change in the water. We arrived there at midday so a lot of driving already, then Berg took the wheel & drove us further South to Coronation Beach.
We ended up staying there for the night & met a random South African guy that lived in Augusta, the South Coast. He was a little excitable & had a fetish for drawing maps in the sand & for Tasmania! Wierd.
Day 64:
As we were only 30km's North of Geraldton, we thought it would be rude if we didn't stop in at Nick & Helen's & use their water, heating, electric, food, drink & accommodation so we did.
Helen had the day off so we did a bit of catching up & showing photos before she dashed off shopping!! Nick came in at lunch & we showed photos again & traded stories from the last week before he went back into work. We had a lazy afternoon, only getting up to get alcohol from the bottle shop.
In the evening we all had a BBQ, fillet steak again, swear we are eating like royalty at the mo. Everyone got a bit merry & we stayed up chatting til late, before watching Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness, a classic comedy horror from back in the day. Sure you've seen it.
Check the pics as well, few more added today. Weather is great here yet again, hate to think how hot were gonna be in Cairns next week. We'll let you know. Ciao for now, love Matt & Berg.xx
