This morning it is foggy, windy and kind of rainy. Not rain really.... more like a dense fog?! All I know is that this day is nothing like yesterday.
But this is all part of the experience and all of us are pretty upbeat.... Especially when the fire is going and coffee is on. I have to tell you that, having reached our advanced age, it is really good to stay in bed and listen to the 'kids' stoking the fire and making coffee. What a blessing .... there is pay back time!!
This is a day to explore the island a bit more. It is also the second morning that we have walked along the beach next to fresh wolf tracks. Apparently there is a wolf that comes to check your camp at night. So far our food cache has held it's own.
There are a lot of stories to tell about our day of wandering. Here are a few:
Celia played real estate agent to a group of hermit crabs. By dropping empty shells in to the tide pool she was able to take pictures of the crabs leaving the safety of their home to 'try out' the new shell and see if it is better. In spite of a few fights most of them left happy with their windfall!
Carissa and Joe found a cabin up a steep slippery path.
More important than that... they found an out house. We spent the first few days not knowing there was a clean out house at the other end of the beach.
Shane, James and Todd took off in the high waves to check the crab trap. No crabs ... just a little high blood pressure from those of us watching on shore.
Found a huge sun starfish. So big it draped over a dinner plate. Did you know that a small sun starfish will attack a baby crab even when it is outnumbered. Nope, either did I, but the kids proved it!
Joe became 'Survivorman' as he filled 7 bottles with fresh water using string and one of our tarps. That meant no coffee rationing!!
Carissa decorated the beach with her sand drawings.
To top all this off a pod of orcas swam past as we were fininishing up dinner. At least six of them apparently going after baby seals. Amazing way to end the day.
