Today was our last day in Litchfield NP, tomorrow we leave for Darwin for the next 2.5 months or so.
We had a cruisie morning looking at some more falls and ruins. We checked out the remains of Bamboo Creek Tin Mine which was really well preserved. We were amazed at how much machinery was left here, usually we've found at these places a lot was taken away and sold off. Boo and Meg had a blast pretending they were on a ship, love watching there play and imagination at work. We walked the short circuit walk up to the mine shaft where Marty poked his head in shining the torch. Not much to see he reckons. It was cool to look at the ground and you could see little bits of tin mixed into the sand. Tin was mined here on a small scale from 1906, however was shut down after unfavorable weather conditions and transport problems. There were a lot of aboriginals that worked here and the info around the site was interesting to read.
After this we went and had a quick look at Walker Creek and decided just to go down to the bridge. Marty and l were pretty wrecked for some reason and didn't have much enthusiasm or energy to walk today.
We then drove to our last stop, a short walk to a lookout at Tolmer Falls. I think this is one of the most stunning falls in the park. This fall cascades over two high escarpments into a deep distant plunge pool. There is no entry to the bottom of the fall as it is home to several colonies of rare and protected bat species, the ghost bat and orange horseshoe bat. We didn't see any, but the view from the platform was spectacular! Pity they were burning off in the horizon cause that view would have been awesome.
We were beat, so we went back to camp and had some lunch znx chilled out. The girls mucked around happily riding their bikes. After a whole we decided to go down to Wangi Falls for our last swim in Litchfield. It was a great way to end our two week adventure from Alice Springs to Darwin. Boo and Marty took off and swam under the falls, later saying it stung their backs it was so forceful. Meanwhile Meg and l took a stroll into the forest boardwalk were we saw some bats. Meg was transfixed and do intrigued about them. We had a lovely walk, barefoot, as l thought it was all boarded. Wrong, we had a little rocky track which a lot of people pointed out that we had tough feet doing it. Think they would have thought l was a crazy mum, whoops!! Eventually we were all in the plunge pool having a great swim together, Meg is back to being a fish in water. We all swam over to the falls, the one on the left having a small warmed rock pool up the cliff. We all climbed up and warmed up, not liking the thought of getting back in the main water, it was a tad fresh!
The arvo went quick and we had an early night as tomorrow was pack up day. We were all excited to be getting back to civilization l think and also to be catching up with the Hambrook's again. Will be great to have familiar friends around for a while instead of being isolated. So tomorrow we set off to Darwin, the last two weeks being fantastic!!
