Considering our late night the night before watching the fireworks, l was pretty surprised that we were on the road by 9:30am. Next stop was Litchfield National Park.
We made a stop at Humpty Doo for a grocery stock up and fuel. We had two funny moments, both created by each girl. First one was when we pulled into Humoty Doo, we told Boo the name of the town and we then over heard her telling Meg that "this is where Humpty Dumpty lives". Then we pulled up to the servo to refill and saw the 'Big Boxing Croc' statute there so got the girls out for a pic. The funny thing was Meg got worried about who the croc was gonna fight, was asking all these questions. Between the two of them, l nearly wet myself!
Now that our tummies were full, fridge restocked and the fuel topped up we headed onto the Stuart Highway towards Litchfield NP. Again, it was only meant to be a short day but we ended up arriving in Litchfield around 3pm. We pulled into Florence Falls camp ground to look for a spot even though they state no caravans allowed. All spots were full so next we went to Wangi Falls campground. Again, all camp spots were full. Now l was getting anxious cause it was getting later and we hadn't encountered this before on our trip, that there would be nowhere to camp. So we headed up Thr road to Safari Campgrounds but soon went out as they wanted $40 for an unpowered site per night. Total bloody rip off. With that we went back to Wangi Falls abd pulled into the carpark and set up camp hoping the ranger wouldn't tell us to move on. It cost us $15.40 per night, totaling to $61.60 for four nights! Awesome value for money, even if it wasn't our ideal spot. But we have learnt to be very adaptive on this trip.
After quickly setting up he girls and l got changed into our bathers and ran down to Wangi Falls, a five minute walk from our camp. It was a bit fresh in the water but so beautiful. The girls and l swam out to the falls, lucky there were a few rocks along the way that l could stand on for a breather as Meg pulls me down a little. After our swim we headed back to camp to help Marty with tea. We found him over at the BBQ where we met Lyn, Steve, jade and Ashley. They were a family holidaying from Geelong for three months. Straight away conversations were flowing and the kids were playing together. After tea we met them back and started a communal fire where we shared out the marshmallows. Boo was so proud at herself at her marshmallow cooking skills that she just kept cooking them and handing them out to everyone loving the received compliments. It was a great night, the Liss went off snd played while we chatted around the camp fire. Such a small world as Lyn knew of Kerry, our Cape York mate. Boo clicked with Jade straight away, even though she was 10. Jade was a real sweetie and taught Boo how to finger knit bracelets with wool. So you know what she'll be doing from now on, will be a great time waster in the car l reckon. We ended up putting the girls to bed late again, looking forward to tomorrow when we check out some amazing waterfalls.....
