Hi everybody, hope all is well and that everyone enjoyed their Easter break. Took myself off to Frazer Island for my Easter weekend. Left Brisbane on Friday morning to drive over 200 km up the sunshine coast to Rainbow Beach. On are way there we came across a car accident on a dual carriageway, which left us in the longest traffic jam I've ever seen in my life, luckily it got moving again after about 15 minutes, and we were back on are way to Rainbow beach.
We arrived in rainbow beach and got an induction on the Frazer Island trip, to let us know the dangers and the places of interest. We were then split into two groups of eleven. Our group consisted of 10 Irish and 1 German girl, all of whom were very nice and we got on great. After the induction we each had to put down a $200 deposit, encase we caused any damage to the jeep or the equipment. Then we were of to the supermarket to buy some food for the trip, not forgetting half a dozen boxes of beer and cases of wine.
The next morning we packed up the jeep and drove down to the boat and were on are way to Frazer Island. When we arrived we drove along the beach to Lake Wabby. The lake had huge steep sand banks and very clear water. After we were finish swimming in the lake we walked back to the jeep and set up our tents on the beach. We cooked up the food and a snake decided to join us for dinner. We then drank and played games till the early hours of the next day. At night it rained and insects kept coming into the tent. The ground was very hard and unconformable but we weren't in the tents for long, as the next morning we had to pack up our belonging and move to the next stop, Lake McKenzie.
Lake McKenzie is the most beautiful place I've seen so far. It's got white sand and crystal clear water, and we were lucky enough to see it on a lovely sunny day. I could have spent the entire 3 days here and been more than happy , but we had to move on the next camp site were we would meet up with the other group and some aborigines. We had another enjoyable night were we tried to learn the didgeridoo, played games and cooked food around the camp fire. We also got to see some dingo's and we fed them any food we had left over.
The next morning we had planed to go to a creak before returning back to the boat. But the tide was nearly fully in, so we had to drive over some dangerous rocks. We didn't think that we were going to make it over the rocks safely, but we did . We got to see the creak and made it back to the boat just in time before the rain started coming down as fast as it could.
The rain continued to come down all through the night. The next morning we left to go to Noosa to do a canoe safari but because of the rain the trip was cancelled. We left Rainbow beach to make our way back towards Brisbane but one of the roads we needed to take had been flooded with 2 meters of rain, so we had to take a detour inland to get down the coast. On route I drove through 2 pot holes, which were side be side in the road when I was coming down a dual carriageway and now the car isn't sounding its best, but it still took us back home safely to Brisbane
