Day 29. Checotah, Oklahoma.
Another day and another state! We are now in Oklahoma! We started the day looking around the town of Hot Springs. We saw one of the restored bathhouses and some of the odd things that they thought improved your health. I remain skeptical about the plugged in bath emitting electric shocks into the water, although apparently no one actually died as a result of using it. From there we headed up to the lookout point on a closed drive before hitting the roads, passing through the Ouchita National Forest and across the state line. The roads were much more interesting today and a lot more twisty - especially on the Talimena Scenic Drive. We didn't see another car on this section for over an hour.
You could tell that Oklahoma is different from Arkansas. It seems a bit richer. One of the reasons may be the "nodding donkey" type oil extractors in most people's back garden. They were only small but a lot of them were pumping. We have now arrived at our stop for the night and cooked dinner. Before that though we had to help the owner fix our bed as it had a hole in the middle of the base. Nobody seems to know how that happened! Anyway we are ready for the next 200 miles tomorrow to our next cabin.
