To save our livers and wallet we had to move on. We headed down past parched red soiled landscape to Katherine.
Despite it being on the low 30's we both decided to go down to the hot springs. The first surprise was that it was free, the second was that it is not hot but slightly warm. Loads of elderly people were bobing around and we pretty much did the same - until we got bobbed out. Getting an approved picture of Liz bobbing helped to kill lots of time.
The camp site is typical - full of elderly people in caravans or campers. Bushy Dave explained that retired people here sell their houses and buy the kit for touring Aus. They spend their days adjusting and then readjusting things stopping every so often to check out 'the Jones (or Bruces) settup next plot'.
We left the camp to go to the cinema in town. We decided to walk the two km in. Katherine had the same feel as Stringbok in South Africa - edgy. There is a tension between the Aussies and Aboriginals worse than in South Africa with the blacks. Katherine has Aboriginals a plenty and most were drunk.
The cinema was shut so we hit a hotel bar (I was thirsty). The place was typical Aussie - all that pleaseth within arms reach: pool, sport on TV, slot machines and a juke box that had to play country and western songs. Outside in the beer garden it felt like back home in Evesham (however it was nice and warm).
