There is only one single carriage road going out of Burning Man and this was the biggest ever at 60,000 people. We felt that we had seen the festival and wanted to beat the rush out.
It was not too bad getting out at just two hours. The nice touch they do here is to move blocks of traffic in quarter mile sections so that you can turn your engines off and do something else albeit in a line of traffic.
We were heading back to cheap Reno to recover, my chest was bad again and all the late nights had taken it's toll.
So what are my thoughts on Burning Man?
This sounds undramatic but it is different, wild, sexy, friendly and above all an amazing experience. What makes any festival work is the people and the atmosphere. Here it is hot and warm at night with lots of sunshine and people determined to have a good time in a festival starved country. Although I could easily see the appeal of having a festival in a remote dessert it did cause issues with dust and heat. Most people I asked out of curiosity said that it is to make sure that the people that came really did want to come.
