This was going to be a hot day well over 100F. The objective was to show Liz some of the art. Everyone was on about the topless cycle ride parade starting at the burning man. This fitted in with showing Liz the burning man and some of the art nearby. By the time we got there we had drunk 2 liters of water and needed more. Other art was far into the dessert where there was nothing to drink. We drifted back towards the tent to get a bag with lots of water. We needed to try and make contact with some friends of a friend here at the festival. We could not find the camp but we did hit on some free ice cream and always had to call in on Mikeys wine camp that had the most refreshing wine of the festival.
The skeleton flamingo ladies offered us the use of their bikes for a while so I went off back into the dessert to see the art (Liz wanted to chill).
The art reminded me of the art at Glastonbury festival, what made it work here was the blank canvas of the dessert and the mountains. My favourite was a brilliant woman statue that took a year of welding to make. Unfortunetly our iPhone batteries ran out on the first day so do not have a picture of anything away from the tent. I did get a picture of this on the Nikon.
By this time the heat had started to create dust devils and sections of the festival were hidden by the wind driven dust.
After giving the bikes back me and Liz headed off to see the parade and generally get out of the sun in some cafes playing some live music.
The evening we had the bikes again so we headed off to find some other friends of a friend at a place called vertical camp. This is a five story camp with luxuries like kitchen living room exectra. We were invited to a party on a double decker bus with a live band playing some good different stuff. By now the dust was really bad, what brought this home was seeing a guy with full infra red night vision and gas mask (splinter cell springs to mind). Feeling too sober for the party we headed off to find something to drink but ended up going back to the tent where we had reserves.
It soon became apparent that the dust had affected my chest despite having a mask on. We were up wind so going into the dust was not a good idea, plenty to do in the various camps.
