Yay! A day of being a proper tourist. Day out in St Louis. Made a fairly early start and after a bit of brekkie at the hotel headed for the metro. Now despite the metro station being quite visible from the hotel it turned out that it was actually a 20 minute walk under the freeway. Anyway got our tickets, boarded the train and headed for town.
Got out at the Gateway Arch and walked along the Mississippi River to see this maaassive structure. Once inside the queues were a bit off-putting so we decided to forego the trip to the top and instead visited the Museum of Western Expansion. And it was actually really interesting all about St L being a starting point for many of the explorers and pioneers. Good history lesson for my rusty brain.
After exploring a few of the downtown sights we jumped on the metro to the Delmar Loop where we walked the Walk of Fame. I never knew so many famous people came from St Louis: Tina Turner, Betty Grable, Vincent Price, TS Eliot, Scott Joplin to name but a few.
After posing next to Chuck Berry's duck-walk statue we dropped in on Blueberry Hill, the venue where he still plays once a month (not today sadly). Grabbed a late lunch and a few cold beers while people-watching into the afternoon. Very chilled.
Back on the road tomorrow so back to hotel for a good rest.
