Francis invited Mike, Claire and I to his house for a meal. We arrived early at 5pm so that we would not finish too late. Being outside of the compound after dark is strongly discouraged. Francis lives in a small rented house near where we are staying with his wife Sally and their daughter. We spent an hour or so talking about the need for a strong Christian presence in schools as well as discussing weddings and the local customs. When the food came it was chicken, rice, chipati, greens and ugali. We had heard a lot about ugali as it is the local staple. It is made from maize flour mixed with water. It is a bit tasteless but once put with the chicken it was quite nice. We ended the meal with some small banana's which where far sweeter than the ones we have at home and some sweet tea. It was a really good evening and we were bowled over by the generosity of Francis and Sally. We slithered home through the dark and the mud very full and happy.
