We spent a very lazy weekend around the house. On Saturday we had a lie-in. Simon was cooking so we had scotch pancakes, cake and in the evening chickpea curry and home-made ice cream. Our big adventure was to walk to town to buy a loaf of bread and phone credit. Amos has gone home for two weeks. His home is 20 miles away so we probably won't see him again. He is now feeling better from the malaria and has been noticeably happier for the last few days.
On Sunday it was our 1st wedding anniversary. Simon, Jane, Mike and Becky made us a cake and Becky made a Thai curry.
During the day we went to the Anglican Church in town. It was fun and they had a guest speaker who was very good. The service was empty when it started, but by the start of the preach was completely full.
In the afternoon a colleague of Becky called Kiprop came round with Esther his wife. We had a nice time talking about snakes, weddings, the royal wedding and running. Kiprop is from the area and tribe who produce all the long distance runners and definitely looked like a runner. We learned a lot about the customs of the people who live here.
After dinner we talked with Simon and Mike about corruption and how we measure the success of work in Africa. I think that without the knowledge that God had called them here people would soon give up. Despite all that they have done both mike and Simon said that it is the relationships with the local people that will have the greatest lasting impact. I guess that worth thinking about.
