We were up bright and early and set out on our way towards Milford Sound. Its a 240km round trip and a rather lovely one too! The initial part of the drive wasn't as impressive as we were expecting but once we passed Te Aanau it improved greatly! We made various stops along the way including at the mirror lakes and lake Gunn. The closer to Milford sound we got, the more WOW it got! The mountains were snow capped and there are beautiful rivers and 'creek's along the way. Just before we had to drive through the long Homer tunnel. We stopped just before it to see all the snow that was just beside the road! It was like a snow cave and you could see it melting slowly. Many of the other tourists seemed amazed to see snow!! The tunnel was very long and quite steep in parts and also very dark. Mark forgot to take his sunglasses off so he found it even darker than I did! Numpty! After the tunnel the road became very twisty and the surrounding scenery was quite something! We stopped at a rock formation called the Chasm which had water rushing through it. There were also lots of waterfalls to see along the way.
Once we arrived at Milford sound we walked around the area. It was very quiet and very beautiful. You could take boat trips through it but we didn't have enough time. After taking the necessary pictures and observing Mitre peak we made our way back to Mossburn to stay on a farm campsite for the night. We would have stayed in Milford sound but we are already fed up of the sand flies and they particularly like this area! The farm had lots of animals which was amusing and Mark got chased by chickens! Hilarious!
