It's time to leave Rocky Harbour....unfortunately. It's been one of our top three places to visit so far on this trip. But, as always it's time to leave and make it to the ferry to get off the island. Based on the ferry times from Port Aux Basques we knew that we couldn't make the 11:30 ferry so we had no choice to take the MIDNIGHT ferry. It meant that we would have to sleep on the ferry and forgoe a hotel for the night.
We checked in on time (2 hours before sailing) and got into Line #9 for our two hour wait. We made a bee line for the prized reclining seats and settled in for the seven (7) hour sail. You can't believe the noises, snores from all directions in the room. Once we arrived at finally got off the ferry we headed for the Cabot Trail. I've seen this in pictures over the years and I'm not sure what I expected. Sure it's very picturesque in some places, but for the most part it's rows and rows of trees. You can see from the attached pictures that there is definitely a beauty in the area, I just thought I'd see a lot more of it.
We decided to shut it down in Port Hawkesbury, NS for the night. Given that we all didn't sleep that well on the ferry, we thought we'd call it quits early. We're only a few hours from Halifax so our drive in tomorrow shouldn't be that big of a deal. Our plan is to spend two nights in Halifax and then head to Yarmouth, where we catch the CAT ferry from Yarmouth to Portland, Mass. A little expensive in terms of US$ but it outweighs the drive all the way back around the horn and into the Boston area.
Again, I'm getting lots of comments from all of you - thank-you. We appreciate you following us with only twelve more days to go before we all fly off to our homes.
