We left the Victoria Inn (B&B) in Kensington, P.E.I. with a little sadness. It was one of the best rooms that we had so far and at the best rate + it included a sumptuous breakfast. I'd recommend this place to anyone heading to Prince Edward Island. It's reasonably priced and they've really put a lot of effort into making it a real nice B&B. Tell Leighton that Bob & Deb sent you.
We pulled out at about 9:00 a.m. so that we could make the 1 1/2 hour drive to the Woods Island Ferry. Of course we arrived about an hour early so we had some time to take some lighthouse pictures. The ferry ride itself took about 75 minutes to cross over to Nova Scotia and was a nice short ride on calm seas. We drove about another two hours to Sydney and then on to Glace Bay. I really wanted to see Glace Bay for a number of reasons, but boy was I disappointed. It's really a waste of time. We pulled up to Tim Hortons for some Wi-Fi so that we could find a hotel - initially with not much luck. It seemed like all the better hotels were full or their pricing was way too high for our budget. After searching and searching we finally found a motel on Expedia that seemed to meet the criteria.
We're pretty particular about our hotels and this is definitely not one of the best but the best we could do on short notice I suspect. We had a reasonable dinner at the hotel and headed off to get our emails, blogs and photos updated.
Tomorrow is the big ferry ride from the North Sydney Ferry quay - we head over to the Rock for the 16-hour ferry ride. It departs at 5:00 p.m. and the cost for the four of us + the SUV is a whopping $880.00. Seems a little rich, but I guess that's the price we have to pay to get there. This price does include a quad (bunk bed) suite for us to put our head down on the way over. Our waitress tonight warned us about the MOOSE on the island. She's told us to be very, very careful as they often dart from the woods onto the highway.
We'll report further from St. Johns tomorrow. Hope all goes well on the ferry ride. Talk soon.
