Magnetic Island is a 20 minute ferry ride from the town of Townsville. I was mildly perplexed that they didn't ask me to drive the ferry.. But anyway, the Island is a quiet one. They didn't have a mall. I stayed at X-Base which is a charming location of huts on the beach. Met a guy called Adam on the ferry. I spent two days there, the first night Adam and I drank by the beach bar- it was happy hour between half 8 and half 9 and we had a few vodka's. The second day I went to the Koala Sanctuary and we got told some very fascinating facts, such as ionly 1 person a year gets killed by a crocodile, whereas 6 people a year get killed by cocunuts faling from the trees. And that mosquitos like European women with smelly feet! We were allowed to hold the animals, I held Barbie the croc, Barney the Koala- who was just adorable! So cute and cuddly. Also a cockatoo, a snake and a lizard. There was a white cockatoo who apparently didnt like men, it was so strange because she could just tell every time a man walked into her pen- she would turn her back or walk away. Anyway after that I did a 3 hour walk home and that night had a few drinks with Adam, Will and a Huddersfield couple staying in my hut- Gemma and Peter. Its so nice hearing northern accents. Every body here is from London or somewhere down south.

The next day I caught the bus to Airlie Beach which is where I am now. Doing the WhitSundays sailing on Friday and then onwards I go again.
