G'Day Folks
Well we finally made it to Darwin after 35 hours on 3 different buses across 2 states but here we are in sticky hot Darwin.
The whole journey did not pass without a few dramas the first of which was a blowout while cruising on the highway at 130 km/h there was a huge bang and then a 45 minute delay while the driver changed the tyre in 35 degrees!!!!
Secondly while on the bus it got dark and Mel did this crazy jump thing which made me laugh but a cockroach had landed on her head from the luggage rack. Just when I thought she was settled down for the night there was another outburst and a 2nd cockroach had come down to see her!!!! Luckily we were due to change coach at Tennant Creek, but the last drama was just up the road before we made it there.
Again it started with another big bang around 2am but unfortunately this time we had hit a kangaroo full on. This is quite a common occurance in the outback as there is no lighting and the animals become startled by the lights.
Thankfully we changed coach at 3am and that was it for incidents. On the way up you could feel the sun getting hotter, it is a really dry heat. All the way up there is just trees and termite mounds everywhere some about 9 feet tall.
The landscape was not very interesting but we got here and now have 4 days to find stuff to do without getting too hot and sweaty!!!
Lots of Love
M & M
