Bounty Island was our first stop after a very stressful arrival from LA, however once we saw the beautiful island we felt pretty stress free. It is a very small island it took us only 25 minutes to walk around the whole thing. After checking out our Bure which was on the beach we took out a kayak around the island to investigate.
The evening was good fun after a lovely meal we watched a very exciting crab race, our crab called Molson unfortunatley didn't come in the top three which was disappointing but it was a great night anyway.
The following day we went sailing on the seaspray a big clipper we called in at a local village for the traditional kava ceremony which was great fun but the Kava was pretty grim it was like dish water in colour and pretty much in taste too it made our tongues go numb. It is made from a pepper plant and if enough is consumed it is a mild halluciagenic!!!
We then sailed to the island of Mondriki where they filmed the Tom Hanks film castaway, it was beautiful here and we spent time snorkelling over an amazing reef with some colourful sea life it was brilliant fun.
After lots of free drink on the clipper we arrived home to our own desert island for another night of traditional dancing and singing.
The following day we arrived at Waya Lai Lai which is a tiny isalnd owned completely by the local fijian village the ride there on the boat was bumpy. Our bure was lovely very traditional with a thatched roof (full of spiders). Here we relaxed because we had to be up at 4.30am (I know it's madness) to do a long hike up a mountain to watch the sunrise. I have to say although the hike was hard as it was pitch black and we were in the forest it was worth it, the sky was full of stars that were so bright it looked like a painting we saw all the major constellations. The sunrise was amazing too well worth the hike.
When we arrived back at the village we were knackered so we booked in for a massage on the beach which was great just what we both needed.
After a couple of days here relaxing we went on the boat again to a small island called Yaqeta where we stayed at Sanawai which was a tiny place run by a family, we stayed with them and they taught us how to do traditional weaving, I made a bookmark (which is a masterpiece) and Marcus made a bracelet (not as good as my effort but fair)
We were due to stay here for two nights however the water pump broke so we had no water and had to be moved to another island called Tavewa where we stayed at coral view resort. It was amazing here our bure was very posh we even had electricity which was a new thing for us, although we still only had cold showers but we were used to this by now. From here we visited some underwater caves which were ok but pretty scary and I got bitten by loads of weird insect things called water lice.
We had a great time here and made many friends in the bar (surprise surprise) however our time was short and we were back on the boat before long heading for Sunrise Lagoon resort on Nanuya Lai Lai which we had heard negative things about and when we arrived we saw why. The food here was dreadful and we didn't really eat much for the whole two days, in fact we tried to get moved to another island but couldn't however we made the most of it by visiting the blue lagoon which was beautiful and also where they filmed the movie all them years ago.
Our next resort was Korovou on the island of Naviti which was brilliant fun our bure was so cool right on the beach and so luxurious compared to the last one. We were supposed to be staying on a boat for two nights but changed to the island as the boat was referred to as the party boat by all the young people and we were so pleased we did. The island was great the staff so friendly and from here we went swimming with manta rays, a boat took us out to sea and we dived off and swam over the reef with these amazing creatures they are totally amazing so graceful and huge I made good friends with one and nearly missed the boat back!!!
We also snorkelled over the coral garden which was truly beautiful, after this we headed back home for lunch. The sunsets here were great and we enjoyed watching them before we tried our hand at traditional bula dancing, which was a sight not to be missed really!!
We have just arrived at our final island called Nanuya Baluvu, manta ray resort, we have a tree house which is cool but we are only here for 1 night although we will be spending it with friends we have made along the way guess where folks, yep thats right in the bar!!! before heading back to Nadi on the mainland where we have 1 night then we fly out to New Zealand 2 days early as we are all beached out and ready for our next adventure. We have heard that the weather there is -7 at the moment so don't think I will need the bikini!!!!
Be in touch soon
Lots of Love
