Had our free mammoth breakfast this morning before heading off South west for Westport. The drive took about 4 hours with a few stop offs. The first was Lake Rotorua and the start of the Southern Alps, it was very tranquil and picturesque. We nearly hit 2 loose sheep that were on the road and had to swerve to miss them, which is a shame as it could have been Roast Lamb for dinner instead of pie and peas!!!!
Carried on driving and took the only road through Buller Gorge and several towns till we reached Westport. Found a hostel to stay in called Bazils, we thought we were the only one's staying then a bus load of teenagers turned up, bad luck but not to worry.
Once we were checked in we headed for the Fur Seal Colony that they have about 16km up the road. They are Kekeno seals and are really cute they were just laid around not doing much but it was pretty cold. Had some seafood chowder at a cafe on the beach a bit similar to Lewinnick Lodge in Newquay.
Just back in town and managed to find one pub that is open they tend to shut everything around here really early, yesterday the shops shut at 1pm!!!!
Must dash as Pie and Peas are calling us.
